The NSW Building Commission, has compiled a Building Defects Library to help the industry move on from making the same mistakes over and over again.
It’s a booklet in downloadable PDF form with text and images describing around 40 of the most common defects building inspectors find in five categories:
fire safety;
waterproofing;
structure;
building envelope; and
building services (gas, plumbing and electric)
It is aimed at apartment buildings, dormitory-style buildings and residential care homes.
We have had a look through this - and whilst it doesn't cover ALL the possible defects which the industry faces, it's a great start. Whether you're building in NSW, elsewhere in Australia - or anywhere in the world, preventing these defects would be a good start - and it applies to ALL types of buildings, not just those in scope for the NSW Building Commission.
